Sign Design and Wayfinding for Calcutta Riverside township. Calcutta River Side or CRS as it is more commonly know as, is a redevelopment of the erstwhile Batanagar. The project is a joint venture between Bata India & the Hiland Group which is one of Calcutta's largest real estate developers. The site is on the banks of the Hoogly river and once developed, will be one of the regions largest integrated township with residential, commercial, institutional and recreation developments within.
Our studio began work on this project in 2016 on the wayfinding and sign design scheme. In this project, we have designed to use locally available bricks and exposed structural steel as a homage to the Howrah Bridge. Our design allows for the the natural aging of brick (not the steel) as a measure towards the passage of time.
